Thoughts of upcoming travel can bring two things to mind: either gearing up for an amazing adventure or, the dreaded idea of packing.  Either way, preparation is key to ensure a hassle-free experience.

Pre-TSA days, you could just throw some items in your suitcase (whether carry-on or checked) and go.  Now, it’s a new day, but we still rely on our must have beauty products.  Planning ahead and being organized is essential, especially if you’re sick and tired of donating your expensive lotions, hair or skin goodies to the TSA.

First, purchase toiletries and other items that come in a size that is TSA compliant.  Buying and keeping these items in stock can ease the stress of packing.   Another step in making things hassle-free, is ordering these products from Amazon.  If you’re a Prime Member, they can be delivered in two days. Another perk is that most of these items can be purchased under their “Subscribe and Save” program, ensuring you always have them available.

Having to hunt for the products, pick and choose sizes, and then transfer them to the TSA maximum 3 oz. plastic bottles can be time consuming and nerve-wracking.  Simply, click, buy and pack.  Here are a few of my go-to faves that will make you a packing expert.

Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water is a facial cleanser that is a wonderful alternative to soap.  At the end of the day, I swipe it on with a cotton ball and can literally feel the grit and grime disappear.  It’s recommended for all skin types. (3.4 oz)

CeraVe has a complete line of lotions and cremes.  Dry skin?  Itchy skin?  Eczema?  Whatever your need, they have a product available and you’ll end up incorporating one of them into your daily routine.  Moisturizing Cream pack of 2 (1.89 oz)

Also available is a Skin Care Set that contains moisturizing crème, lotion, foaming face wash and fragrance-free hydrating face wash.

EltaMD Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 Sunscreen is a mineral-based sunscreen that is recommended by dermatologists.  This formula is perfect for those whose skin is sensitive, acne-prone or affected by hyperpigmentation. (1.7 oz)

Thayer’s Witch Hazel Facial Toner is alcohol-free and reduces breakouts.  It comes in rose, lavender or cucumber scents.  (3 oz)

One of the best multi-use cleansers on the market is Dr. Bonner’s Liquid Castile Soap.  It can be used as a body wash, facial cleanser, bubble bath, on baby’s delicate skin, as a household cleanser, to bathe your dog, or as a laundry detergent.  It’s been around forever and comes in a variety of scents.  My favorite is the peppermint.  When used in the shower, the invigorating scent will awaken your senses and boost energy. (2 oz)

Insect repellant can be a must-have, especially during summer months.  Repel is available in a pump spray (1 oz for $3.88) or in wipes  (15 count) The packets are a space saver in your luggage and your purse.

Evian Facial Spray  is a favorite to use on an airline flight.  Misting your face with this rosewater-infused spray tones, moisturizes and refreshes your skin. Using throughout the day can revive your make-up.  (1.7 oz travel duo)

Miniature or rollerball Perfumes  are perfect for travel.  Amazon offers scents from Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Kate Spade, Burberry and other designers.  (3 oz and under – price varies)

The person who invented Poo-pourri is a genius.  Spray it in the toilet before you go and no one will ever know you poo’d!  Available in a variety of fragrances.  (2 oz.)

Tide packets are great in case you spill something on your favorite top or jeans.  Soaking your items in a sink eliminates stains setting in.  (3 packets)

Amazon also carries Convenience Travel Kits, an assortment of prepacked travel sized items that comply with TSA requirements.  Included are all the basics: shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, body wash, shower pouf, deodorant, lotion, face lotion with sunscreen, dental floss, toothpaste, mouthwash, Band Aids, nail file, comb, tampax, disposable razor, botton swabs and balls, facial wipes, and an eye mask, all in a quart size zip-top cosmetic bag.  (21 items) You can also find one for the man in your life that includes disposable razors, shave cream, etc. (20 items for $16.23)

Other items to consider when packing are a sleeping mask, travel pillow, earplugs, hair styling products, makeup remover, feminine hygiene products, cotton balls, cotton swabs, lint roller, pain reliever and supplements in packets.

Still need bottles?  The best type are squeezable, see-through and compact (set of 4).

Lastly, don’t forget to add the following items to your carryon JUST in case your luggage doesn’t arrive when you do:  underwear, toothbrush, meds and whatever else you can’t live without for a day or two.  Also include extra meds and supplements in your pill box in case you are delayed getting home.
